The many uses of corncobs were developed in the middle of the
20th century when yields were increasing & ear corn picking was still prevalent. At
some elevators the piles of cobs grew to such a large size as to become a fire
hazard.
Today, combines are utilized to harvest corn processors are working hard to
recapture the cobs that are being left in the fields by those combines. Now the
cob supply available to processors are from the few farming areas still picking
ear & the seed corn industry which picks on the ear to protect kernels from
damage. |
